Façades

Façades is an exhibition of new work that highlights the commodification of artist identities in popular culture, through a presentation of video screenshots transferred onto wood panels. I was inspired to create Façades when I noticed a pattern in the Architectural Digest’s Open Door series. These short videos feature the homes of well known celebrities, many of whom prominently display stacks of artist monographs. I began collecting screenshots of books from these videos to better understand what these featured artists signify in the context of a public celebrity house tour. I have also made a collection of miniature couture tank tops that are emblazoned with an artist's name, and displayed on custom designed hangers that correlate to each artist’s life work. Semiotic theory, Modern art, voyeurism and architecture come together in Façades to contemplate cultural perceptions of value.
